Your full age report shows up here: exact age, total days lived, a live seconds counter, your next birthday, generation, zodiac signs and the dates you reach key US age milestones.

Enter your date of birth above and this age calculator returns your exact age in years, months and days within a second. It also counts the days, weeks and hours you have lived and shows the countdown to your next birthday. Change the second date and it tells you how old you were, or will be, on any day you choose.

A rough answer to how old am I is easy, but passport forms, school enrollment, insurance quotes and developmental tests want the exact figure. Rounding to the nearest year can put you on the wrong side of a cutoff date. The age calculator follows the Gregorian calendar and handles leap years automatically, so the result matches what an official form expects.

How to Use the Age Calculator

Type your date of birth in the first field in the month, day and year format used in the United States, such as 07/14/1992. The second field holds today’s date, so you can press Calculate right away for your current age. If you were born outside the US, switch to the day, month and year format first, because 04/07 means April 7 in one system and July 4 in the other.

To find your age on a different day, replace today’s date with any target date, for example the first day of a school year or the date printed on an old photo. The age calculator then measures the time between those two dates instead of counting up to the present. Results update instantly, so you can test several dates in a row without reloading the page.

Pick the format before you type, and the month menu removes any doubt about which number is the month.

What Your Age Report Shows

The headline result is your completed age in years, months and days, the figure used on legal and medical documents. Below it, the age calculator converts the same span into total months, weeks, days and hours, with a live counter ticking in seconds. Someone born on March 3, 2000 had lived 9,725 days by October 18, 2026, and the report shows that number without any manual math.

The report also covers the details people usually search for one at a time. It lists your next birthday with a countdown in days, your half birthday, the day of the week you were born, your generation, your Western zodiac sign and your Chinese zodiac animal. Having all of it in one place saves a trip to five different websites, and it is the main reason this report goes further than the single number most age tools return.

How Age Is Calculated From a Date of Birth

Age is the time between a date of birth and a reference date, counted in whole years, then whole months, then leftover days. You only gain a year when the calendar reaches the same month and day as your birth, so two people born a week apart can show different ages for part of the year. Every age calculator built on the Gregorian calendar follows this rule, and tools only differ in how they count the leftover months and days.

The month step causes most of the confusion because months run anywhere from 28 to 31 days. This age calculator counts a month as complete when the same date number comes around again, so January 15 to February 15 is one month. If the start date does not exist in the shorter month, as with January 31, the month stays open, so January 31 to February 28 reads as 28 days.

The Manual Method With an Example

You can check any result by hand with column subtraction, the same way you subtract large numbers at school. Write the reference date on top and the birth date below it in year, month and day order, then subtract the days, the months and the years from right to left. If a column on top is smaller than the one below, borrow from the column to its left by adding the days of the previous month or 12 months.

Take a birth date of August 25, 1990 and a reference date of October 18, 2026. The day column reads 18 minus 25, so you borrow the 30 days of September, which turns it into 48 minus 25 and leaves 23 days, while the month column drops from 10 to 9. Nine months minus eight months leaves one month and 2026 minus 1990 leaves 36 years, so the person is 36 years, 1 month and 23 days old.

Leap Years and February 29 Birthdays

A leap year adds February 29 to the calendar every four years, except for century years that are not divisible by 400. That rule from the Gregorian calendar is why 2000 was a leap year while 1900 was not, and why 2100 will skip the extra day as well. The calculator applies the full rule, so day counts stay correct even for birth dates more than a century old.

People born on February 29, called leaplings, see their real birthday only once every four years. In common years the United Kingdom treats March 1 as the legal birthday, while New Zealand and Taiwan use February 28. The age calculator lets you pick either day, so a leapling born in 2008 can see when they turned 18 under each rule.

Find Your Age on a Specific Date

Changing the second date answers questions such as how old was I on 9/11 or how old will I be at my daughter’s wedding. The age calculator accepts any reference date after your birth, whether it falls in 1975 or 2050. Genealogists use it in reverse, comparing the age on a census record with the census date to narrow down a missing birth year.

For spans that have nothing to do with a birthday, such as a lease or the gap between two invoices, use the age between two dates calculator. It accepts any two dates and can include or exclude the end date. Keeping the tools separate keeps each one simple, and the result labels always match the question you asked.

Age in Months, Weeks, Days and Seconds

Converting age into smaller units is where websites disagree, because a calendar month has no fixed length. Some tools count completed calendar months, while others divide total days by an average month of 30.4375 days. This age calculator shows completed calendar months, the way pediatricians and schools state the age of young children.

Days, weeks and hours have fixed lengths, so those totals are exact. A 30 year old has lived roughly 10,957 days, and the precise figure depends on how many February 29s fell inside those years. If you want a page focused on these units, the age in days calculator breaks your life down into days, weeks, hours, minutes and seconds with a live counter.

Exact Age Milestones in the United States

Many legal rights in the US begin on an exact birthday. Most states issue a learner’s permit at 15 or 16, citizens vote in federal elections at 18, and the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 set the drinking age at 21 nationwide. Kindergarten adds its own cutoff, with many states requiring a child to turn 5 by September 1.

Later milestones come with money attached. Medicare eligibility begins at 65, and the Social Security Administration sets full retirement age at 67 for anyone born in 1960 or later. The report lists the calendar date on which you reach each of these ages, so you can see how many days remain before you qualify.

How Age Is Counted Around the World

The method above is the international standard, but it is not the only system people use. In traditional East Asian age reckoning, a baby is one year old at birth and everyone gains a year at the new year, which can make a person two years older than their international age for part of the year. China and Vietnam still use this nominal age informally, usually tied to the Lunar New Year rather than January 1.

South Korea used the same system in daily life until June 28, 2023, when a new law made international age the standard for legal and administrative documents. Korean age is still heard in conversation, so many people check both numbers when they travel or fill out forms. The Korean age calculator on this site shows international age, Korean age and the older year age system side by side.

Chronological Age vs Biological Age

Chronological age is calendar time since birth, and it is the only age an age calculator can measure from a date alone. Speech language pathologists and school psychologists record it in years, months and days, written like 7;4;12, before they score a standardized test. Many test manuals round the days to the nearest month, so the chronological age calculator here lets you enter the test date and choose the rounding rule.

Biological age estimates how old your body seems from markers such as blood pressure, fitness and DNA methylation. Two people with the same chronological age can sit several years apart, a gap researchers measure with epigenetic clocks like GrimAge and PhenoAge. Those estimates need health inputs, so they sit on the biological age calculator page rather than in the main tool.

How Old Am I If I Was Born In a Given Year

If you only know the birth year, subtract it from the current year and then take one away if the birthday has not happened yet. Someone born in 1990 is 36 in 2026 after their birthday and 35 before it, and that one year gap is the most common slip in quick mental math. The table below gives both numbers for common birth years.

Every birth year also has a dedicated page showing the generation, Chinese zodiac, leap year status and the age reached in 2030 and 2040. The born in year index links all of them, from 1925 to 2025. Use those pages when only the year of birth is known, such as for a grandparent or a historical figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do different age calculators show different months and days?

Tools disagree because months have different lengths and each calculator picks its own way to count a partial month. Some count a month as complete on the same date number, while others divide total days by an average month of 30.4375 days. The years always match, and the gap in months or days usually comes down to which of those two methods the tool uses.

How old am I if I was born on February 29?

Your age is counted the same way as everyone else’s, in full years since your birth date. In common years the birthday is marked on February 28 or March 1 depending on the rules where you live, so a leapling born in 2004 turned 22 in early 2026. You only get a true February 29 birthday in leap years such as 2028 and 2032.

Does the age calculator count the day I was born?

No, the birth date is treated as day zero and counting starts the next day. That is the same convention used by the DATEDIF function in Excel and by most date difference tools. If you need an inclusive count for a contract or a challenge, add one day to the total days result.

What year was I born if I am 18 today?

If you are 18 and have already had your birthday this year, you were born in 2008. If your birthday is still ahead in 2026, you were born in 2007. The birth year calculator does the same math for any age and any year, past or future.

How many days old am I right now?

Enter your birth date in the age calculator and the total days line answers that instantly, updated every day. As a quick estimate, multiply your age in years by 365.25 and add the days since your last birthday. A person who has just turned 40 has lived about 14,610 days.
